The assignment one evaluates academic writing skills for a basic 5-paragraph expository or argumentative essay.

 

From the english class and the assignment one, I slowly began to understand the importance of pre-writing. Like many people, I always have trouble on getting started with writing. Writing process are particularly difficult if you haven’t initially given yourself a chance to play around with your ideas and think about what you ultimately want. Prewriting helps me with my writing process by starting off on the right foot both intellectually and psychologically. I've learnt five prewriting techniques from my english class that helps me generate ideas such as freewriting, questioning, making a list, clustering that also known as mind mapping, and preparing a scratch outline. As for me, I always prefer to use mind map because categorization are visually clearly and rather than writing out lots of superfluous words only the key ideas are represented. Besides, I’ve also learnt that thesis statement, topic sentences, supporting paragraphs, general details and specific details are important in constructing a good essay.

 

Last but not least, referencing. Referencing is very important; this is to gives credit to authors whose works you have used and properly citing materials is one strategy to help you avoid plagiarizing.

 

By this assignment, I’ve gained a lot of extra knowledge by doing researches of my essay. My essay would never be good without any research and prewriting. I had fun writing the essay.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We are assigned to do a video presentation in a group of four or five. My group consisted of How Lee Jing, Tee Sin Yee, Leong Chee Mun and I. We are to deliver an oral presentation describing a future city that includes the following areas. Together we suggested Norway.

 

1. Security

2. Water and waste management

3. Tourism and Hospitality

4. Transport, Energy Management and Disaster Relief

5. Green Building

 

 

In the class, Miss Thivilojana has taught us some techniques of oral presentation. Techniques like body language or eye contact while presenting are very useful. Although we had gone through some hard time by doing researches and filming, however, by using tips that Miss Thivilojana had given us, we had successfully produced the video. Through this assignment, I have learnt how to present an effective presentation of my research as well as cooperate and collaborate with my team members.
